One of the best tips on mindset is to focus on the present. When you start feeling overwhelmed, scattered or unsure what the next step is in your day, close your eyes and take a few deep breaths.
Then open your eyes and focus on your surroundings.
I do this when I feel like too many people are pulling me in too many different directions. Deep breathing calms my nerves. Then I can focus on my surroundings ..
I can hear the rhythmic breathing of my dog sleeping under the desk.
I notice the sparrows sitting on the roof outside my window.
I feel the smooth keys on my keyboard, my readers sliding down my nose.
I can feel my pulse slow down and the anxiety drain away.
After just a few minutes, I am clearheaded, calm and ready to tackle the next thing on my list.
Learn to be aware of your surroundings.
As you go about your day-to-day activities, really look at things.
Notice shapes, colors, tastes, smells.
Notice natural and man-made beauty.
Be present.
